TRANSFORMATION COACH & FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
My Journey From "Never Enough" to Authentically Free
I don't know who I am
or what I actually want.
"So-and-so is doing this
—what are YOU doing?"
What else do I have to do
for you to love me?
I'm not Chinese enough.
I'm not American enough.
If you've ever heard those words - or felt them in your bones - you already know my story.
Because it's your story too.
I was born in NYC to Chinese immigrant parents. I grew up straddling two cultures and belonging to neither. After my father left when I was just one year old for another woman, I was raised under the critical eyes of my mother and aunt—women who taught me that love had to be earned through achievement, compliance, and perfection.
When my grandfather, the only healthy male figure in my life—passed away from colon cancer, I was blamed for it.
A message I grew up with:
My worth was measured by what I achieved, not who I was.
So I did what high-achieving second-gen immigrant child does: I performed. I delivered. I did as I was told.

On paper, my life looked well lived & experienced:
Masters in Public Accounting
Trained auditor at Ernst & Young
Financial roles at PepsiCo and Marc Jacobs
Currently: Financial Controller for an Amazon consulting business
Technology recruiting at Robert Half International
Sales/Project Manager at an IT firm
Nearly 20 years in hospitality and executed over 30 commercial events
Launched Ethos Collective, a hospitality marketing agency
Lived in New York City, Hong Kong, and studied martial arts in Wuhan - searching for identity in achievement and adventure
The constant need to perform, to do, to deliver, to earn my place led me down a path I never saw coming - alcoholism.
Because when you don't know who you are or what you want, and never feeling "good enough"...
Numbing becomes survival.

"Not rebuilding—building.
Because you can't rebuild something
that was never yours to begin with."
For the first time in my life, I was constructing my own identity from scratch.
Not the daughter my Aunt and Mom demanded.
Not the success story my family could brag about.
Not the "good immigrant daughter" who did everything right.
Me.
And it wasn't pretty. There were rejections. Fallouts.
Relationships that couldn't survive me choosing myself.
Moments of profound discomfort as patterns surfaced. Patterns I didn't even know I had, until I stopped performing long enough to notice them.
Every choice—even the "wrong" ones—had value when I got curious and paused. Every discovery, every new direction, every adventure (even when it felt impossibly hard) became something worth celebrating.
There are no "right" or "wrong" choices.
There's no "good" or "bad" path.
There's only data—and it's all valuable.
When you're told your whole life that there's only ONE right way (the way your parents approve of, the way that maintains "face," the way that proves you're grateful for their sacrifice)—the idea that all choices generate valuable data is radical liberation.
Your worth isn't determined by getting it "right."
Your worth builds through your willingness to explore, learn, and choose again.

I stopped chasing titles that looked good on paper and started making choices that felt aligned. I went from "I should stay in accounting because that's stable and respectable" to "What if I combine my financial expertise with my passion for transformation?" I'm now a Financial Controller AND a Transformation Coach—not because I planned it, but because I followed the data of what energized me.
I stopped performing for approval and started showing up as myself—messy, uncertain, still figuring it out. Some relationships ended. The ones that stayed became deeper, more honest, more alive. I celebrated our difference and valued who they are instead of who I thought they should be. I experienced being loved for who I am unconditionally. No amount of praises or validation could create that kind of connection.
I stopped waiting for "someday when I have it all figured out" to enjoy my life. I started saying yes to adventures before I felt "ready." I said no without guilt and rest as I see fit. I am empowered to create results from a place of possibilities. I value feedback and recognise it's a re-direction, not a "I failed". I started trusting that my curiosity would lead me somewhere interesting—and it always did.
When you celebrate who you are and the choices you're making (separate from outcomes), you:
This is what I mean by "Love, Be Loved, Generate Love"—not as a vague concept, but as a practice:
Love: Choose yourself even when it feels selfish
Be Loved: Show up as you are, not as who you think you should be
Generate Love: Watch how your authenticity gives others permission to do the same
"When Suyun stopped managing her family's feelings and started showing up honestly, the breakthrough happened in 3 weeks. The relationship didn't become perfect—it became real."
This is your invitation to stop performing and start celebrating.
I'm currently accepting new clients for one-on-one transformation coaching and hosting workshops designed to evoke a curious mindset that's present to the value in every step of the journey.
If you're ready—or even just curious—let's talk.
P.S. - Still skeptical? Good. Bring that skepticism to the call. I'm not here to convince you of anything.
I'm here to get curious with you about what's true.
P.P.S. - If after the call you're still not sure, that's valuable data too.
